HARVEST
FOR HUNGER
UMC
Outreach is sponsoring a Lent activity at the Cleveland Food Bank on March 25th
from 6-8:00pm. Members and guests are invited to help sort food for
distribution to those in need. We will meet in the parking lot of Rockport at
5:30 pm to carpool to the food bank, which is off of I-90 and E155th. Please
sign up quickly for this enjoyable and popular event, which is limited to the
first 12 volunteers. Youth are welcome, with a signed permission slip.
"Harvest for Hunger" is sponsored by the Cleveland
Food Bank during the Month of March. As in past years the children will collect
a monetary donation from the congregation one Sunday in March. Please look over
the information from the Cleveland Food Bank that is posted on the Outreach
Bulletin Board near the Parlor.
Ramp Builders
Ramp
Builders will be needed during the month of May. Dave Plachta
has already contacted Nehemiah Mission and we are on the schedule! We will plan
to work on Saturday, May 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 8:30am until 3:00pm. Youth will
need to have parent permission slips and emergency contact information
completed and on file. Volunteers will be needed not only to build the ramp but
to visit with the home owner, to be "Go-fors",
to help with lunch, etc. A "Tool Time" (evening for adults and youth
to practice using tools) will be scheduled during April.
Easter Baskets for
Laura’s Home
Easter is rapidly approaching and Rockport’s youth will be
preparing Easter baskets for some of the women and children at Laura’s
Home again this year. Laura’s Home is a place where battered women and
children can go and stay safe temporarily until they can find other living
arrangements. The Easter baskets are filled with supplies they can use at the
home and after they relocate as well. Laura’s Home does not allow the
residents to receive candy in their baskets. We are collecting donations of
body wash, shampoo, toothpaste (you may find larger sizes of these three items
for a good price at dollar stores); dental floss, nicer combs / hair picks /
brushes, nail files or emery boards, shower caps, and loofas
/ bath sponges. We could also use lesser amounts of toothbrushes (we have some
left over from last year), children’s tear free shampoo, and small
stuffed animals marked for children under age 3. Special fun items you think
children or teens (remember there are both girls and boys) or their mothers
might enjoy are also nice to put in with the more practical items. Monetary
donations are also appreciated so we can purchase any additional needed items
and buy the baskets to put the items in. The baskets will be filled by the
youth at their March 14th meeting so please
bring any donations to the church by Sunday, March 7th. Thank you for
helping these families find some joy in a difficult time.
Rocky River Assistance Program
The Assistance Program has suggested "beans and canned
tomatoes" as the March donation. All non-perishable food donations are
greatly appreciated. We will be collecting the beans and tomatoes from February
15th through March 14th. Please place donations in the hall container labeled
"Rocky River Assistance Program." These "gifts" are a part
of the Sunday Morning Offering.
Volunteers
are need on Tuesday, March 16th from 7-8:30P.M. at Beach Education
Center on Detroit Road to
sort and pack groceries for families to pick-up on Wednesday. A sign-up sheet
is posted on the hall bulletin board..
John The Baptist Coat Collection
The "John The Baptist Coat
Collection" will continue until March 15th. Pat Ginley
has taken 43 coats to the men's shelter!! As we start to think about Spring and discarding gloves, scarves, hats, and mittens,
please add these items to "J.B.'s Box" in
the hallway. Coat donations for men, women, and children are gladly accepted.
Remember "Ongoing Collections"
During this holiday season: Pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House,
books in good condition for the children at Metro Hospital, and toys, clothing,
and household items for the rummage sale in the Spring.
